i'd like to make myself believe.....

You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Light up the world as i fell asleep
Cause they fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude
But i wouuld just stand and stare

Am so loving Fireflies by Owl City! Love how this song captures this very dreamy effect... it's like I'm laying down on the grass watching the stars or something (pffft.... watching the stars, the day I get to see the sky filled with stars! Sigh...). Yea, I'm a dreamer. But this song isn't about stars... It's about FIREFLIES!

Hurmm... Since I probably won't get to see the whole sky light up with stars, fireflies would be the next best thing? Haha. Ooooh.... Only thing is I can't stand bugs, so I'd probably smash one when before it even lights up! =O How could I! They're already becoming so extinct in Malaysia.

I only recall seeing ONE lonely firefly in my whole entire life! And that was in Genting Highlands, how odd....

Anyway!

Went out today for a fun-filled ice-skating outing with the brother, the sister, the cousin (Lawrence), Eugene and Colin in Sunway Pyramid. Wheee... Fun fun fun. Love empty ice skating rinks! Skate fast without worrying whether someone's gonna clumsily crash into you,

and bring you down on the

cold,

wet,

icy floor.

Lessons learnt!

  1. wear thicker socks. Those skates are BRUTAL for the feet and ankles! urghh.

  2. OBSERVE surroundings. Obviously in the rink la. Near casualties decrease by ten folds when you look at WHO is skating, HOW they're skating, WHERE they're skating rather then looking at the ground all the time. The second I see a wobbly skater in front of me I'd try to find another path to skate. Haha. But results may differ between individuals XD This works for me.

  3. get into the rink as soon as they finish resurfacing the ice! It's like, pure untouched ice! gleeeeeeeeeeeee!

  4. stay in the rink as long as you can when they want to resurface the ice. Yea. Bye bye crowd.

  5. hurmmm.... return a hello? lol.

Came back feeling way too tired. The jams really just, take a whole lotta energy out of you, even if you're not driving (yes, I didn't drive there. heeee)

heh..... okay... feeling just a tinge lazy. Ending this post!

Christmas is coming..... hmm hmm... wheee =]

I think they prefer a cooler climate. They seem to have a low tolerance for industrialized society, too. For example, I saw thousands of the little creatures (and caught dozens--but let go and never squashed :P ) when I was much younger, in Missouri. I'm not sure I saw one in Florida, though. I've seen a couple females (three, tops?) here, in South Carolina, but no males.

Hmm...as for the warmer climate assumption, though... When I lived in Belize for a month, I didn't see fireflies... but I did see an insect with a form of bioluminescence, though. They had two glowing green eyeballs instead of flashy butts. True story. My family will verify. :D
